WHY I HAD TO STOP LASHING

  1. Are you able to detect the odor of your adhesive? It's highly probable that your client can as well.

  2. Do you or your client experience watering eyes during the application?

  3. Do you or your clients have red eyes following their eyelash appointment?

  4. Do you experience shortness of breath or congestion after a long lash day?

  5. Do you experience bloating, gas, or stomach pain regularly?

Today, consumers and professionals are more concerned about the ingredients in their beauty products than ever before.

I am passionate about the safety of beauty products and using N95 mask protection in the lash room. I consider myself somewhat of a health nut, I am gluten, dairy & soy free, I only eat clean and organic foods, and I exercise daily. Unfortunately, due to years of working without a mask and being allergic to lash adhesive, my physicians have advised me to stop lashing as it has led to severe inflammation in my esophagus and stomach. This has caused constant bloating and elevated blood toxicity levels, negatively impacting my gut health. The high levels of blood toxicity, bloating, and stomach inflammation are likely exacerbated by my allergy to cyanoacrylate, the main ingredient in the adhesive. To heal and reduce the irritation, it was suggested by my physicians to completely stop the exposure to cyanoacrylate, as they believe that this is the cause of my symptoms. So, I highly encourage you to research, use clean adhesives, and always wear an N95 mask when you are lashing to ensure a healthy career in all aspects. By reading this Blog, you are on your way to protecting yourself and aligning with the values of today's consumers who are increasingly conscious of the ingredients used in the products they apply to their bodies.

What can I do to be safe from the harmful fumes of lash glue?

I highly recommended to protect yourself from the start of your lash career. I regret not doing so in the first 10 years of my lash career, and now I have suffered the consequences. It is crucial to emphasize the significance of adequate ventilation and protective equipment in the lash room. I recommend having an air purifier and anti-allergy gel on hand. Whenever you refresh your adhesive, you can drop water on your old glue dot to instantly cure it and stop the active fumes. Adding live plants can also help purify the air by releasing clean oxygen. Prolonged exposure to certain adhesives without proper protection can pose potential health risks, leading to bodily inflammation. Every part of your body can absorb the fumes of cyanoacrylate- from your lungs to your skin, to your eyes.

LunaKai Lash now offers innovative eyelash glue formulated to prioritize the health of lash artists everywhere. Our PMMA (Polymethyl methacrylate) and hydroquinone-free adhesive eliminates harmful fumes while providing a quick dry time of 1 second and a retention of 6-7 weeks.

What is PMMA?

PMMA belongs to the important acrylic family of resins. Acrylic is chemically known as Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and is a synthetic resin created from the polymerization of methyl methacrylate. However, exposure to PMMA dust or fumes may cause respiratory irritation and contact with the skin or eyes may cause irritation or allergic reactions. Respiratory effects have also been reported in humans following short-term and long-term inhalation exposure.

While our adhesives still contain cyanoacrylate, please consider the options above to minimize your harmful exposure.
